Drowning Rats = Sinking Ship

I thought I would leave these figures against white background but in the end there was too much temptation to draw in a really turbulent sky and I think it really helps. These figures look like they're invading. They're in control and seem to be jumping with purpose. That's what I'm after - I think!

Magic Minh

This is the start of a new drawing featuring my new muse, Minh the Ninja. I reckon I'll put one or two more figures on the right hand side. Quite like leaving the background white and the smudges. The negative space works well. I have to think of how I'm going to work in some architecture - if at all - maybe this drawing I will leave just figures. See what happens..
Looking at the drawings small on the blog makes me think they should have another element going on apart from the charcoal - am always a bit hesitant with experimenting with my drawings as the details take a long time and I don't want to fuck them up but really I think the time has come. Possibly some graphite lines or pure pigment on canvas could work well to get the dense black areas and these could weep a bit - or, god forbid, even some spray can. I was looking at graffiti duo Herakut last week and they do some really amazing stuff wih very detailed areas and other areas very unworked.

Back To School

Finally, a bit of work. A dodgy first sketch for a much bigger plan but a first sketch nonetheless. My temporary berlin studio is going to be a hotbed of production I can feel it in my bones - and that german regggaeton that gets played is going to help me a lot. Yeah baby..

GRAFITEROS!!!

Today I've been hanging with the famous catalan graffiti artist CISCOKSL, it doesn't matter where I go in the world those damn catalans keep catching up with me... I will be indulging in some illegal activity with this one during the next few days.
I've been busy this week setting up in my new Berlin studio in Kreuzberg - more to come on this very soon.

Merry Go Round

Today I found myself going painfully slowly and horseless on a very empty merry go round. It was in the exhibition "Carnival Within - Made in America". Pretty good exhibition is was too. This was a work by Karen Olivier - a Trinidadian artist who works in New York.

Dangerous Waters

Later on, amongst the BCN fans I found a shark, although he hasn't come out that well in the photos - more like a human sized grey condom. And later on still, I found a cockerel, who gave me his head but I had to draw the line at accepting his feet - they were webbed and I was already feeling a little unsteady.

In The Net

I also managed to become a VIP at the final four of the european basketball championships - Moscow v Barcelona followed by a couple of insane Greek teams slogging it out - both from the same city - reminded me of being back in the weedge as they were green and white, and red and blue and delighted in abusing each other. I love Russians - they're just so bad ass, and of course, they won... Basketball I found a bit like watching a ping pong match but with extraordinarily tall people - not that entertaining but the banquet and the cheerleading more than made up for it.

Parkour Parlour

I've been working with he guys from Berlin Movement who do the Parkour here in Berlin. With the help of my beautiful assistants Gemma and Maria, I have had a very productive weekend so far and by the time we finish the shoot on Monday I will have a hell of a lot of new material. It's amazing how much you can learn from a couple of german teenagers in terms of zen, commitment, sobriety and bravery!
